ABIM's Advocate Regional Arms Control


Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, Deputy Chairman, International Affairs Bureau of ABIM has represented ABIM for the two-days Workshop on “Faith-based Advocacy and Arms Trade: Asia-Pacific Perspectives” organized by Human Security and Disarmament Kristna Fredsrörelsen, The Swedish Fellowship of Reconciliation (SweFOR). The workshop was held on 26-27 January 2012 in Bangkok Christian Guest House. 31 representatives from all over the world namely Sweden, Thailand, Philipines, India, Myanmar, United States, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Pakistan, Canada and Malaysia attended the programme.

ABIM has been selected as the only representative from Malaysia. The overall aim of these two days workshop is to promote collaboration and exchange of experiences between representatives from faith communities and faith-based organizations from the Asia-Pacific region. This programme will explore the regional relevance of issues related to military expenditure and development, armed violence and human security, and ongoing initiatives for increased arms control such as the Arms Trade Treaty as well as to map out strategies for effective faith-based advocacy in the region.
